Sustainable energy resources expo kicks off in Kinmen An exhibition featuring smart electricity technologies and sustainable energy resources kicked off on July 30 at the state-owned Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower) branch office in the offshore county of Kinmen.
At the event, exhibition-goers were given an understanding of how the evolution of smart grid technologies work, and the solutions they provide, through video, models and augmented reality (AR) demonstrations.
This year, the show is presented under five themes -- Smart Users, Smart Electricity Networks, Eco-energy Sources, Information and Telecommunications Systems, and Future Prospects.
The concept of smart grid networks has become an international trend, Taipower Chairman Yang Wei-fuu said at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, adding that the company is working to develop smart renewable energy in Kinmen through the installation of solar panels and wind turbines.
Meanwhile, Kinmen will be the first county in Taiwan to adopt smart electricity meters, he said.
Yang said a smart grid can help provide a reliable power supply and resolve the issue of power shortages.
Energy saving and carbon reduction are also expected to be achieved in Kinmen through the development of a smart grid, according to Yang.
